I credit it you with leading me to enlightenment, and you send a flame volley at me?

I believe I have written 10 posts (not counting the "general" posts I've written for the blog, which would bring my total to 14) and you have written 7. And let's not even get into the "What we're reading" link ratio. Let me know when you're ready to get back to blogging, and then we'll talk.

Pwned.

Re: “There’s Something In The Air”: How Apple Brings You Into The Flock, And Keeps You There

"...penning lengthy emails to him about the glories of customization, compatibility, and speed that Windows and PCs offered, and that Macs and OS X simply couldn’t."

Taken out of context, it's like a tale of unrequited love between you and Bill Gates (or Michael Dell). I just bought my MacBook the day Leopard came out. The computer is fine. It's easy to use, boots up quickly, is quiet for the most part, and the OS works well. But the more I look at it, the more the OS looks like versions of Linux/Unix based operating systems that have been around for years, and more importantly to me, free. Programs like Ubuntu, Solaris, Gentoo, and others are free to use and, in their open source nature, are being constantly being upgraded but not only their parent companies, but by their users. This makes the amount of available programs and upgrades for the distributions almost limitless.

Here's how I see it. Microsoft makes the original, then Apple makes it a whole lot better and more user friendly. In some cases, like the iPhone and iPod, Apple makes it first, and a whole lot better than anything else out there. But for the free Linux distributions, it's harder to use, more flexible, more obscure, and most importantly, free.

Don't get me wrong, my MacBook has brought me the most carefree and least frustrating computer experience I've ever had, but in a few years when it's time to move on, I'll be eying the newest Asus eeePC and whatever Linux distribution strikes my fancy.
